If you are reading it then either you are chronic smoker or you know someone who is. Now I won't talk about nicotine patches or other substitutes to replace Cigarettes, I will give you the psyche to tackle the addiction.
Remember the following steps and follow them whenever you need them -
1- Stop saying that you want to Quit or I Quit, because we never quit anything we just dial down the amount we consume. And "Quit" is a very strict word, it plays a negative role. For example, you decide to quit smoking, and everything goes well for 6-7 months and then one day in a party you smoke one and now you start thinking that I broke my promise, and I can't quit and now you are back on the habit. It wasn't that 1 cigarette that did you the harm it was actually your thought that you can't quit.
Hence, don't follow the Quit approach.
2- Cigarette is not an addiction it is a void. We catch bad or useless habits when we don't have anything good to do with our lives. So, if you actually want to "Quit" smoking, adopt some healthy habits like going to gym or playing some sport or playing some instrument, anything will do. Or you can have a purpose in life, it helps the most because it attacks you habit of smoking from two sides, one it shifts your focus in other direction and second you find cigarette hampering your work and when you realise that you want to remove that obstacle.
3 - Always say - I can smoke whenever I want, right now I just don't want to because I have some other important things to do. It will give you a sense of control over your life and you would also be procrastinating a bad habit and humans are good at that.
So, do follow these three steps and after a month or two let me know. It worked for me; it will work for you.
Share it with someone who needs it more.
